Safety check planner
Every non-domestic building has a set of routine safety checks, from the weekly alarm test to the wiring inspection every five years. Which ones apply depends on what the building has. Answer ten questions and you get the full list, with how often and who does each one, ready to print and pin up.
About the building
What does it have?
Fire safety, electrics, first aid and insurance apply to every building and are already on your list. These decide the rest.

Where the frequencies come from
The fire checks follow BS 5839 (alarms), BS 5266 (emergency lighting) and BS 5306 (extinguishers), which are what a fire risk assessment and an insurer expect to see. Gas, electrical, lift, legionella and asbestos intervals follow the regulations and HSE guidance named on the test frequencies page. Your own fire risk assessment, licence conditions or insurer may set something stricter; if they do, theirs wins.
Who does it: You is a check someone on site can do and note in the logbook. Contractor is a competent person's visit, where you keep the certificate. Responsible person is a review by whoever holds the duty, usually once a year.
This is a planning aid, not legal advice, and it does not determine your obligations. Your fire risk assessment is the authority on what your building needs. The Venue Record is independent and is not connected to, endorsed by or approved by any government body.
Pinned to the wall is a start. Reminded is better.
The Venue Record keeps this list live: a reminder before each check is due, to the person who does it, recorded from a phone, and the certificates filed when the contractor leaves. Opening to the first venues soon.
